House fire sends thick smoke over Kenmore neighborhood

Jun 17, 2026, 10:10 AM

A house fire sent thick smoke billowing into the clear sky, visible from several blocks away near N.E. 191st Street and 68th Avenue N.E in Kenmore.

Fire crews responded quickly to the scene, which is located not far from a fire station. Multiple fire engines arrived as smoke rose high above the neighborhood.

Firefighters immediately began setting up hose lines and moved toward the home. Crews also placed a ladder against the structure, climbed onto the roof, and cut ventilation holes as they worked to bring the fire under control.

Kenmore homeowners watch from across the street as crews battle flames

Two people believed to be the homeowners were seen standing across the street. They appeared shaken but uninjured, and a sheriff’s deputy at the scene confirmed they were not hurt.

Witnesses who arrived shortly before firefighters reported hearing a couple of loud explosions as flames and smoke first became visible. It was not immediately clear what may have caused those sounds.

From the outside, the home appeared to have a significant amount of clutter around it. Firefighters spent considerable time battling the blaze before knocking it down and transitioning to extinguishing remaining hot spots.

Shoreline Fire was among the agencies responding. As the situation stabilized, the urgency among crews decreased, though firefighters continued working around the home.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
