Kent starts fundraising campaign for election recount

Nov 26, 2022, 11:28 AM | Updated: 3:36 pm

The hotly contested race for Washington’s 3rd Congressional District has been called for Democrat Marie Glusenkamp Perez, but Republican Challenger Joe Kent hasn’t given up — and now he’s pushing for a recount.

Perez wins 3rd District House seat, Kent refuses to concede

Kent says given the number of ballots left that have been rejected and could be “cured” by correcting signatures or other missing information, a recount could still be in the cards.

“Given the number of ballots left to cure and the small margin between myself and my opponent, it’s possible that the eventual margin will require a mandatory recount per state law. However, if it narrowly misses that margin, my campaign is taking steps to raise the money to pay for an optional recount that is also allowed under state law,” Kent’s campaign said in a statement.

As of Friday, Kent still trails Perez by 50.4% to 49.5% — a margin of about 3,000 votes.
