Washington’s Secretary of State Kim Wyman has been fined $10,115 following an investigation into campaign finance violations.

A citizen complaint was filed by Jaxon Ravens, chair of the Washington State Democratic Central Committee, in June. The complaint alleged Wyman’s campaign violated public disclosure laws. It sparked an investigation into her campaign filings.

An investigation discovered that there were 11 reports that Wyman filed 10 days late. The reports were for activity in April 2016, which disclosed $30,567 in contributions. Wyman’s campaign also made an error in reporting late contributions of $943. Wyman’s campaign, however, self-reported these errors.

In light of the recent investigation, the Public Disclosure Commission looked into past campaign filings for Wyman, going back to 2013. It found other reports that were filed between 2-273 days late.

Wyman will pay the state $10,115 over the untimely violations. She will pay $8,140 in costs and fees. A Thurston County Superior Court Judge also imposed a $3,950 penalty against Citizens for Kim Wyman — half of which is suspended for four years as long as the campaign has no more violations in that time. The totals add up to the full $10,115.
