Sexual assault prevention education a part of school curriculum

The upcoming school year is the deadline for every public school in the state to provide comprehensive sexual health education to all K-12 students.

One of the requirements laid out in state law includes education on preventing sexual violence.

“Making prevention possible is multi-year, multi-strategy. We typically do two hours of lessons with each grade of students, working in small groups with students,” Chris Johnson with the King County Sexual Assault Resource Center said.

Johnson leads sexual assault prevention education in Renton and says it largely focuses on affirmative consent, which for younger students, is more about boundaries.

Inflation costing families nearly an extra $5,000

A new study says inflation costs the average American household $4,400 more this year alone.

The American Consumer Institute reports that energy prices are the biggest culprits, but also increased government spending leading to record inflation.

Low-income families are being disproportionately hurt by higher prices. Families earning less than $15,000 a year had to pay nearly $1,000 more in 2022.

Kitsap ferry cancels trip last minute

A last-minute cancellation for Kitsap ferries today.

All afternoon sailings between Bremerton and Annapolis are canceled because of a crew shortage.

Buses will be in service from Annapolis to Port Orchard.

Several small fires erupt a quarter mile from each other

A busy morning for Puget Sound fire as crews work several fires in the East Hill neighborhood.

Puget Sound Fire said the fires were within a quarter mile of each other and did minor damage with no injuries. There was one car fire, two dumpster fires, one tire fire, and one at a homeless encampment.

Dry conditions could have caused the flames to spread easily.

Investigators are determining whether the fires are connected.

Boeing’s Dreamliner back for delivery

The FAA confirmed it will allow Boeing to resume deliveries of the 787 Dreamliner “in the coming days.”

Production problems prevented deliveries for much of the past two years, leaving about 120 of the aircraft “parked.”

Federal regulators say they’re satisfied, now, with the changes Boeing has made.

The FAA and Boeing have been under intense scrutiny ever since two Boeing MAX planes crashed — killing 346 people — after the plane was originally certified.

The MAX was grounded worldwide until it was eventually recertified.
