Kittitas County cops make huge pot bust

Aug 29, 2012, 9:32 AM | Updated: 11:21 am

Kittitas County officials says they’ve made the biggest single marijuana bust in county history.

Sheriff Gene Dana says the operation in Manastash Canyon yielded over 13,500 plants.

“This operation, the largest single grow in Kittitas County, prevented over ten million dollars worth of illegal marijuana from reaching the streets,” Dana said in a news release.

The sheriff says it was the culmination of a joint investigation involving the Sheriff’s Office, Department of Natural Resources and a special team involving the State Patrol, DEA and National Guard on DNR land.

Along with a helicopter to lower the team into the remote area, Dana credits a newly acquired 5-ton surplus military vehicle, which the department got for free for emergency management operations.

Deputies also found camping gear, but no suspects.
