Members with Save the Stone Cottage announced Sunday that the stone-studded cottage on Harbor Avenue Southwest has been saved.

The group announced that more than 360 donors have given more than $60,000, which is enough to move the cottage a mile south to storage.

For the last couple of years, Deb Barker, a volunteer with the group, and other volunteers have been working to save the West Seattle landmark, which was standing in the way of new development.

In December, it was announced the cottage would face a wrecking ball unless the group could move it.

Now that the cottage will be moving, the group stated, “The ‘First Mile’ of its journey will occur in the middle of the night once city permits are issued, most likely on a weekend in April.”

The group stated the house moving experts Nickel Bros are waiting on permits to set an exact moving date.

Members of the Save the Stone Cottage plan to celebrate the initial move and raise more money in an online auction.

The group stated in a release, “Save The Stone Cottage LLC will continue to work hard to raise $110,000 in donations to execute the plan to rescue, relocate and restore the Stone Cottage.”
