Light showers Friday with rain increasing into the weekend

Nov 26, 2021, 11:22 AM

Puget Sound has seen some spotty showers in the area Friday morning, but the rain will be light and will decrease throughout the day.

There could still be a few light showers around for Apple Cup but not a deluge. There might be some lingering showers in the afternoon around Snohomish and King County.

Highs today will be in the lower-50s. This relatively brief break in the weather will end by Saturday afternoon into Sunday morning with more rain coming into the area, as well as mainly rain in the mountains.

It looks like the heaviest rain over the weekend will be near and north of the Canadian border, but the North Cascades will get plenty of rain too.

By the end of the weekend, we could see some minor to moderate flooding on a few area rivers like the Skokomish, Snoqualmie, Snohomish and Nooksack rivers and we could reach major flood stage on the Skagit river around Sunday, but not to the magnitude of earlier this month.

If you’re traveling over the passes this weekend, we could see some freezing rain or wintry mix showers before the snow level rises well above the passes.

Monday will have lighter precipitation across the area before the track of heavier rain could shift even farther north into British Columbia into Tuesday. The exact location and timing of rain early next week (and associated impacts) is still uncertain. After more rain chances Tuesday into Wednesday, we could see a drier period but with colder temperatures late next week.
