The bright green Lime bikes will be removed from Seattle streets by Dec. 31.

The company’s permit expires at the end of the year and it has already started reducing its fleet for the winter months. Just last month, Lime said it would end its pilot program in Bellevue.

“We understand that this will impact some of you,” Lime said in a statement on Tuesday. “Our hope is to work with the City to create a strong multimodal micromobility system to serve the City long into the future.”

Lime hopes to work with the city of Seattle to create a mix of scooters and better bike options by spring.

The city of Seattle has been slow to adopt scooters. Meanwhile, Everett, Tacoma, Bothell and Redmond have already welcomed them to their cities.

“We’ve been hearing a lot of feedback on this issue – including both support for a pilot program and public concerns about safety, equity, and sidewalk accessibility,” SDOT’s Ethan Bergerson told MyNorthwest in early August. “We’re committed to hearing and engaging with the community so that we can design a scooter share pilot program which meets our key objections including safety, fairness to riders, indemnification, and equity.”
