Starting Friday, Nov. 11 until Sunday, Nov. 13, the Link light rail service will be suspended between Capitol Hill station and SODO station for planned maintenance operations.

The tunnel that runs underground through Seattle between the two stations is getting maintenance done on the overhead catenary system (OCS), a power line system that runs above the trains.

New safety feature for Light Rail in the Rainier Valley

Sound Transit is working to divide the OCS into sections so future maintenance will not require the entire tunnel to be closed.

“In addition, crews will also be performing work needed to tie the future East Link extension into the existing Link system,” Sound Transit said.

Instead, riders will have the ability to take a shuttle service between the stations, which will run every 15 minutes and stop at all stations between Capitol Hill and SODO.

“Passengers should plan ahead and allow for extra time for transfers between buses and trains or seek alternative transit options that may better suit their needs,”  according to Sound Transit.

Using the shuttles will slow riders’ trips, and people might need to find an alternate route, especially those that rely on the light rail to commute on Friday.

Those affected by the suspension can take use King County Metro Route 8 from Seattle Center to Capitol Hill, or KC Metro Routes 101, 150, or 594 for travel between Downtown Seattle and SODO. Late-night riders can use  Route 132 at SODO Station (with departures at 12:05 a.m., 12:35 a.m., and 1:05 a.m.) along 4th Avenue and S Lander Street. More alternative routes are available here.
