Liquor board to auction off its remaining bottles

Thousands of bottles of liquor are up for auction this week as the Washington Liquor Board gets rid of all the inventory left over from the state-owned stores.
The state has more than a $1 million worth of liquor sitting on pallets at its Seattle distribution center just waiting for the right bid from someone who owns a liquor license.
There are 138 lots up for auction on Thursday with minimum bids ranging from around $2,500 to more than $20,000.
“There are approximately 15,000 cases,” says the liquor boards Mikhail Carpenter. “There are over 540 pallets ranging from little mini bottles that you see on airplanes all the way up to high dollar items like cognac and champagne.”
Bidders must put down a $5,000 bid deposit and have a valid state liquor license to participate in the auction.
The state has to liquidate all of its inventory as it completes the transition out of liquor sales. Once the liquor is gone, the state will sell the distribution center which is valued at $30 million.
