A local sprinter will be going for gold at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, this summer.

Jaleen Roberts will compete in the long jump and sprints for Team USA track and field.

The Kent Reporter says this is Roberts’ first Paralympic Games, but she’s already a two-time world championship silver medalist in the long jump, and a gold medalist in the 4×100 universal relay.

Roberts, who has cerebral palsy, is a 2017 graduate of Kent Meridian High School and 2021 graduate Eastern Washington University.

The Summer Paralympics will begin on Aug. 24, 2021, and end on Sept. 5.
