Most unsuccessful political campaigns in Washington close their accounts right after the election, but Rob McKenna’s campaign continued spending well into the new year.
A spokesperson for the Public Disclosure Commission calls the spending odd, but no one has filed a complaint against the Friends of Rob McKenna.
The Seattle Times reports McKenna’s campaign spent more than $61,000 this year before closing its accounts March 8.
Campaign manager Randy Pepple says it was all a process of closing the account, which was the largest in state history.
Failed campaigns are required to put any leftover money toward future campaigns, refund to contributors or make donations to charity.
Most of this money went to consulting.
