It was supposed to be a secret, but thousands of people turned up at the Dicks Drive-In on Capitol Hill Wednesday night to watch Macklemore and Ryan Lewis film the music for his new single “White Walls.”

The crowd numbering in the thousands stretched along Broadway in Seattle, blocking one of the neighborhood’s main thoroughfares.

Many heard about an appearance on Reddit news boards and Facebook pages.

The performance was allegedly supposed to begin around 8:30 p.m. but the video crew appeared to be overwhelmed by the massive crowd.

“At one point, the crew for the video was trying to get people to clear the front area of Dick’s so they could start shooting,” described Marisa Hoge, who showed up to watch the performance.

“White Walls” is a reference to a Cadillac and its tires. When duo finally arrived at Dick’s, Macklemore hung out the window of the car and the crowd went wild.

They then performed for the music video from on top of the iconic fast food joint.

The restaurant owners said they welcomed the publicity.

The music video’s production didn’t wrap up until 1 a.m.
