Magnitude 3.8 earthquake rattles Western Washington near Oak Harbor

A small earthquake gave parts of Western Washington a late-night wake-up call.

The Pacific Northwest Seismic Network (PNSN) reported a preliminary magnitude 3.8 quake struck just before 11:35 p.m. last night near Oak Harbor.

The earthquake’s epicenter was centered roughly 13 miles north of Port Townsend, near Oak Harbor. More than 1,300 people reported feeling the shaking.

A magnitude 2.5 aftershock followed about 13 minutes later, just before midnight.

According to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT), there are no reports of damage to state highways, and officials said no significant damage has been reported.
