A 20-year-old man is dead after he was shot in Kent on Monday night.

Investigators say they were called to the 14100 block of SE 282nd Street, about two blocks away from Horizon Elementary School, after someone reported hearing gunshots around 8 p.m.

Officers arrived and at first found only bullet casings. As they continued to search the area, they found a man with gunshot wounds unresponsive in the bushes nearby.

Officers started CPR and Puget Sound Fire and medics were called, but the man died from his injuries.

Police said the man was 20 years old and appeared to be Hispanic, but will not release more information until his family can be found and notified.

Kent police detectives are speaking with neighbors and looking for evidence.

Anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or has information is asked to call the Kent police tip line at 253-856-5808 and reference Kent police case number 20-14470.
