A man who doused himself with gasoline on the state Capitol
campus in Olympia Monday broke no laws, according to the
Washington State Patrol.

The man had dropped what State Patrol Spokesperson Guy Gill
called “personal documents and belongings” off at Governor
Christine Gregoire’s office early Monday morning.

He then retrieved a red fuel can from his vehicle and poured
about one gallon of gas over his head, Gill said.

The man started walking and then collapsed near a flag pole
from an apparent medical condition. He was rushed to a
nearby hospital where he remains unconscious and
unresponsive, Gill said.

A number of prescription medication bottles were retrieved
from the man’s vehicle, and troopers believe he may have
taken some of the medication prior to the incident.

Gill was unsure if the man’s intention was to commit
suicide, but said he is going through a “tough time in his
life,” and committed no crime.
