A man shot north of the Seattle downtown area early Sunday morning was taken to Harborview Medical Center and is expected to make a full recovery. His shooter is still at large.

At 12:30 a.m. September 2, police officers responded to a report of shots fired. Police found the victim at the 1000 block of Westlake Avenue North and rushed him to the hospital in stable condition.

According to officers, the incident took place when the 26-year-old victim and a friend were drinking and smoking marijuana in their car at 8th Avenue North and North Aloha Street. An armed man approached the two and demanded their valuables.

The victim grabbed the barrel of the man’s gun, which then went off. The victim got out of the car and approached the gunman, who fired several more times. Struck in the lower torso, the victim fell to the ground and called for help. The gunman left the scene, running north on Westlake Avenue.

The suspect was described as an African-American man in his 30s wearing a yellow shirt and carrying a handgun. It is unknown whether the victim was acquainted with the suspect.

Although police say that neither the victim nor the witness is cooperating fully with police, they were able to determine that the suspect stole the victim’s phone and cash.

The name and description of the victim and witness were not released.
