Seattle police say a man who was shot several times in a West Seattle parking lot Tuesday night was targeted.

Seattle police say the shooting happened outside a track meet at the West Seattle Stadium in the 4400 block of 35th Avenue Southwest around 7:30 p.m.

The man, who is in his 40s, was taken to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. He was later pronounced dead. Police are searching for a suspect and suspect vehicle, but said they had a limited description.

Seattle detectives are now trying to determine what led up to the shooting. Anyone who possibly heard or saw something Tuesday night is urged to contact detectives at (206) 233-5000.

KIRO 7 learned from neighbors that the track hosts running events for elementary school children on Tuesday evenings.
