Marysville shooting victims remain critical; Memorial funds established for teen killed

Three teens remained in critical condition Sunday following Friday’s shooting at Marysville-Pilchuck High School, while a fourth is in serious condition.

Shaylee Chuckulnaskit and Gia Soriano, both 14, have a nurse by their side and are being monitored at all times, said Dr. Joanne Roberts, chief medical officer for Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett.

The next three days are crucial, she said. “We won’t know a whole lot more for the next two or three days.”

Roberts said the girls’ families remain by their bedsides and are “just grieving.” “We’ve seen tears, we’ve seen anger,” she said.

A gofundme page has been set up to help the Soriano family with expenses.

Nate Hatch, 14, remains in critical condition at Harborview Medical Center. Andrew Fryberg, 15, is in serious condition. Both teens are cousins of gunman Jaylen Fryberg.

Officials have yet to identify the girl killed in Friday’s shooting, but a friend of her mother confirms she is Zoe Galasso, 14, a fellow classmate and friend of the shooter.

Corey Williams, 37, of Lake Stevens tells MyNorthwest.com the family is devastated. He’s established a gofundme.com page to raise funds for them to offset some of their expenses.

“I was trying to find a way to show people care,” he says. “Nobody could ever anticipate something like this happening. There are going to be expenses, whether it’s funeral costs or missing work. It’s exactly what we need to do.”

As of Sunday afternoon, the page had raised over $15,000, far surpassing Williams’ goal of $10,000.

“They (the family) are extremely thankful. I know it means the world to them,” he says.

A community gathering is planned for Sunday afternoon at the Marysville-Pilchuck gym. The 3 p.m. gathering is open to the public, followed by separate, closed sessions for parents and students.

The Marysville School District has cancelled classes for the upcoming week.
