Pedestrian killed by train in Marysville as city marks 4th rail-related incident in September

The Marysville Police Department (MPD) is currently investigating a fatal train and pedestrian collision on Monday in Marysville that left a 45-year-old man dead.
At approximately 4 p.m., a caller stated that people were trespassing on the train tracks, with one person acting erratically near 76th Street NE and State Avenue, MPD announced.
The department noted that possible substance use could have played a role, though the investigation remains underway.

MPD noted that this is the city’s fourth serious train-related incident in September, and the second fatality. Each incident has been caused by different circumstances, either from substance abuse, behavioral health crises, or risky decisions from drivers and pedestrians.
“Together, they highlight a critical reminder: railroad tracks and crossings demand caution, awareness, and respect,” MPD stated. “These incidents affect far more than those directly involved. Families, witnesses, train crews, and our first responders all carry the weight of these traumatic events.”
The department highlighted how this incident came a day before Operation Clear Track on Sept. 22, which is a nationwide rail-safety enforcement initiative in the U.S. that MPD will join. MPD will be conducting targeted patrols at railroad crossings to increase education, visibility, and enforcement with a “simple” goal of preventing another tragedy.
MPD urged the public to stay off railroad tracks, follow all signals and warning devices, and never attempt to beat a train.

“Railroad safety is a shared responsibility — and the choices made around tracks can have consequences far beyond the moment,” MPD stated.
