Meta layoffs: 1,395 King County-based jobs cut amid latest round of company-wide layoffs

Among the 8,000 Meta layoffs that were announced last week, it is now confirmed that 1,395 are within King County.
May 20 marked the first day of notices for layoffs within Meta as the tech giant aims to cut 8,000 roles, or 10% of its workforce, while investing billions of dollars in AI. According to The New York Post, another 7,000 staffers are to be reassigned to AI-focused positions.
Filings through Washington’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) revealed that 1,395 job cuts were based in King County. This includes offices in Seattle, Bellevue, and Redmond, as well as remote roles statewide.
The cuts are set to begin July 22. An internal memo circulated the company last month, preempting the dismissals.
Meta has approximately 8,000 workers in the Puget Sound region, according to KOMO News.
Meta previously laid off 499 Seattle-area employees in 2026.
Meta lays off nearly 170 employees across King County offices
Meta Platforms laid off 168 employees in King County as part of a plan to cut 10% of its Reality Labs division by the end of March.
Meta laid off employees at two Seattle offices, its Bellevue and Redmond offices, and nearly 40 remote employees, according to WARN.
Software engineers, recruiters among those affected in latest round of Meta layoffs
The layoffs took effect on May 8 and will span a wide variety of Meta departments.
The following Meta locations include the number of employees to be laid off per site:
- 1101 Dexter Ave N, Seattle, WA 98109 (approximately 43 affected employees).
- 1531 Utah Avenue S, Seattle, WA 98134 (approximately 10 affected employees).
- 1550 121st Ave NE, Bellevue, WA 98005 (approximately 9 affected employees).
- 9845 Willows Road NE, Redmond, WA 98052 (approximately 67 affected employees).
- Approximately 39 remote employees who reside in Washington.
The vast majority of the impacted Meta positions are in software engineering and recruiting, though other roles are listed, such as product and design management, data science, and several other managerial positions.
All affected employees were notified of their terminations between March 4 and March 25 via a letter from Janelle Gale, Meta’s chief people officer.
Jobs in Reality Labs, which focuses on AR and VR hardware and software, as well as wearable devices like the company’s smart glasses, were primarily affected, according to GeekWire.
In early January, The New York Times reported that Meta was planning to lay off roughly 10% of its Reality Labs employees.
