King County Metro had to scramble to dump safety announcements that drove bus riders crazy this weekend.

The announcements asked riders to “hold on” in English, Spanish and Mandarin, asked riders to “stand behind the yellow line,” and warned that “illegal activities are recorded and reviewed.”

The messages were triggered every time a bus door closed and then about five minutes later on longer trips. But, according to Metro, they were just too frequent and too loud for bus riders.

The agency said it worked Sunday to remove the announcements from the buses, but commuters may notice a few stragglers on Monday.

“Our apologies for any aggravation, and thanks in advance for your patience,” Metro said on its blog.

Metro will consider volume and frequency before moving forward on any revisions. It will also share the changes with riders ahead of time.
