Microsoft health venture to employ 750 in Redmond

Feb 13, 2012, 8:50 AM | Updated: 10:14 am

Microsoft is making a big move into health care with a new venture that will create about 750 jobs in our area to start.

The company announced Monday the new partnership with GE will be called “Caradigm,” a play on what a statement says will be the venture’s focus on changing the paradigm of health care technology.

“A big focus of their push is going to be electronic medical records and making sure that health care technology systems start to adopt a lot of the advances we’ve already started to see in businesses,” said Todd Bishop, technology analyst with Seattle-based Geekwire.com.

The advances include quick data exchange and other benefits that will help doctors and patients have rapid access to far more information, according to Bishop.

The new company will be headed by a combination of GE and Microsoft executives including Chief Technology Officer and Senior VP of Engineering Neal Singh, currently a Microsoft GM.

Caradigm will be based in Redmond and reportedly create at least 750 new jobs to start. The company has yet to unveil a specific location or products but reportedly plans to be in operation later this year.

“Right off the bat it’s a large new company right here in our backyard,” Bishop said.
