A woman who had been missing since Christmas was found dead in Mount Vernon on Monday afternoon, the Mount Vernon Police Department (MVPD) confirmed.

The woman, Alana Taylor, 42, allegedly left her home voluntarily on Christmas, which was “out of character” and “unusual” for her, according to the police department. When she left, it was unknown if she was taking her medication, or if she was experiencing a mental health crisis. She did not have a vehicle or a cell phone.

On Monday, nearly two weeks later, the Mount Vernon Police Department was called to Francis Road near Erika Lane to investigate a possible death.

“Deputies responded to the scene and contacted Mount Vernon Police Department investigators after determining the decedent may have matched the female described in a recent Missing Persons Bulletin,” the Mount Vernon Police Department stated. “MVPD investigators responded alongside the Skagit County Coroner and subsequently confirmed the decedent to be Alana Taylor.”

The investigation into the cause and manner of death remains ongoing.
