Body of missing former Army sergeant found in Carbon River

The body of a woman who has been missing for nearly a week was found in the Carbon River, a Pierce County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson confirmed with KIRO Newsradio Friday.
“While he was out flying his drone, he did in fact locate a female body that was in the river, under the water, in some logs,” Deputy Carly Cappetto, spokesperson for the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office, said. “He had received a tip from a Facebook page posted on there early this morning. So, this young man wanted to bring his drone out and check.”
Pierce County deputies were looking for 29-year-old former U.S. Army sergeant Zuleika Witron since last weekend.
Her family was offering $10,000 to anyone who found her, dead or alive.
Moments before woman went missing
According to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office, Zuleika Witron was walking with another person and her dog under the Fairfax Bridge when she and her dog reportedly fell into the Carbon River at approximately 11:45 a.m. Sunday. The other person had to hike an additional 15 minutes to find a signal to call 911 after the woman fell due to poor cell service.
The dog was found by the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office two miles away from the point where the woman was last seen near the bridge. Drones were used to help find the dog.
