The White River entrance to Mount Rainier National Park is closed until further notice due to a fire in the park.

The Grand Fire Park 2 Fire is burning in the northeast area of the park, and Sunrise and White River areas to SR 410 are temporarily closed until it’s safe to reopen.

According to the city of Enumclaw, the fire is burning more than 200 acres.

A park-wide burn ban has been in effect since June 26. During fire bans, all campfires and the ignition of wood, briquettes, or any fuel in fire pits, fire pans, and barbeque grills are prohibited.

“A fire ban includes all developed campgrounds, including White River, Cougar Rock, and Ohanapecosh. Fires are never allowed in Mount Rainier’s wilderness areas,” the park’s website read.

It’s unclear if this fire was started by humans.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.
