MyNorthwest reports on overnight crime in the Puget Sound region on the morning of June 28: Another shooting in Tacoma after 14 others were injured or killed in shootings over the past three days, a thief caught in Bellevue with hundreds of pieces of mail, and a motorcyclist killed in a hit and run.

Continued violence in Tacoma

Police received a call that someone had been shot at the 800 block of E 65th St in Tacoma.

When they arrived they found a man with a gunshot wound to the chest, and medics attempted to save the man’s life.

He was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The incident is being called a homicide by detectives and is currently under investigation.

When speaking on the shooting, which is just one of more than 14 that have occurred in Tacoma over the past three days, Tacoma mayor Victoria Woodard explained that the summer is when a spike in violent crimes happens. The city is currently putting together a plan to curb this violence.

“I’m just highly frustrated and very sad,” Woodards said. “you’ve heard us talk about our police chief who has been working with national experts and he’s putting together a crime plan at noon July 12.”

Bellevue Mail Thief Caught

In Bellevue Monday, a 33-year-old man was arrested for stealing mail after being caught on camera Monday evening.

Officers responded to the reported theft and tracked the man’s vehicle where they found three U.S. passports, 23 credit and debit cards, 16 personal checks, and hundreds of pieces of mail. Officers also found two black replica rifles.

The man was booked without incident.

Motorcyclist killed in hit and run

Around 1:30 a.m., a motorcyclist and a black Dodge Charger were driving south on Aurora Avenue when the driver of the Charger turned in front of the motorcycle.

The motorcycle crashed, and the Charger fled the scene.

Medics attempted to perform first-aid on the 47-year-old motorcyclist but he was declared dead at the scene.

Police located and seized the Charger, but investigators are still looking for the driver.
