Naked man prompts bomb scare, evacuations in Lynnwood

Feb 19, 2014, 11:52 AM | Updated: 1:22 pm

A number of Lynnwood businesses were evacuated Wednesday morning after a man entered a government office near the Alderwood Plaza shopping center, took off all his clothes and threatened to blow it up.

The suspect brought two backpack sized bags and threw one of them at an interior window in the office building before threatening a woman inside, Sgt. Sean Doty tells KIRO Radio.

Doty says the woman was trapped inside the building hiding from the suspect when police arrived at the Department of Corrections office at 33rd Ave. West.

The 42-year-old man remained inside for about an hour before coming out of the building naked and surrendering to police.

A bomb technician was brought to the scene to sweep for possible explosives.

Doty says the man has a history of mental illness.
