Need booze brought to you? Now there’s an app for that

There’s nothing worse than running out of beer or booze when you’re entertaining. Now, when you need to restock the cooler or liquor cabinet, you can summon it straight from a new app-based service launching Thursday in the Seattle-area.
Drizly partners with local, independent shops who then deliver beer, wine and spirits ordered via the app, available on iOS and Android.
The company doesn’t mark up the prices, so you pay whatever the store charges. You do pay a delivery fee, which varies by retailer, and each one sets a minimum order.
To keep booze away from underage drinkers, delivery drivers authenticate and validate IDs using a propriety smartphone system.
The company says your beverages should arrive within 20-40 minutes after ordering on the app.
For now, Drizly is available primarily from downtown to North Seattle including Belltown, South Lake Union, Madrona, Capitol Hill, Madison Park, Queen Anne, Magnolia, Ballard, Fremont, Green Lake, Wedgewood, Northgate, Broadview, and the University District. Additional areas will be added and announced as they become available, the company says.
Seattle is the ninth major metropolitan market serviced by Drizly, joining Boston, New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, Denver, Washington D.C., Austin, and Indianapolis.
Washington state began allowing liquor delivery in 2012, and a number of companies offer the service by phone order in select areas, GeekWire reports. But Drizly is the first app-based service available in the area.
