Do you need a raincoat over your Halloween costume?

Now that cooler fall rains have returned, many are asking if Halloween will be a wet one this year. Looking back at weather records so far this century, there have been 11 dry Halloweens, including the last three straight years. The last wet Halloween was in 2018, with only a few hundredths of an inch of rain falling.

There have been some soggy Halloweens this century too. 2015 was particularly wet when over an inch of rain fell that day.

Unlike Saturday, which only had a 10% chance of rain, Sunday will be another, much more horrifying story, with rain starting in the early afternoon and lasting all day.

The forecast for Halloween Monday finds a Pacific weather system moving through western Washington early in the day, with rain turning to showers. By the time goblins are visiting doorsteps in the evening, many but not all of the showers will have tapered off, so it is possible the evening will be dry. However, temperatures will be rather cool, in the 40s after highs earlier in the day in the lower to mid-50s.

The coolest Halloween since the year 2000 was in 2006 when the high temperature was only 47 degrees, and the low was 30 for frost on the pumpkin that year.

Halloween will have a near-first quarter moon, likely playing peek-a-boo through the clouds for a spooky feeling to the night. Have a safe and fun Halloween!
