New plan to restrict bikini coffee stands

Some people in Kitsap County are demanding that government
do something to regulate coffee stands that feature
barely-
dressed baristas. But county leaders are saying they can’t
do much.
There are three “bikini barista” stands in Kitsap
County but county officials say the bikinis don’t make
them
adult entertainment. And based on the law, they’re not
doing
anything that could be prevented under the county’s lewd
conduct ordinance, according to Department of Community
Development Director Larry Keeton. The Kitsap Sun reports that there’s been no
increase in crime or decrease in
property values around the businesses.
County regulators say they’ve developed a draft
ordinance. They told a public meeting this week that the
most they can do is require bikini stands to post warning
signs and restrict the view of the stands from the street
or
other businesses by requiring an eight foot tall fence or
landscaping screen.
