New Seattle Schools Superintendent to make $270K

Seattle’s new school superintendent will be paid a base
salary of $270,000 a year, according to a contract released
Tuesday by the Seattle School District.
Jose Banda will make $6,000 per year more than his
predecessor Maria Goodloe Johnson, who was fired in March
2011 after a financial scandal rocked the district.
The three-year contract also includes a $700 monthly
allowance for vehicle expenses, an annual annuity of
$22,000, and numerous other benefits.
The School Board is expected to approve the contract
unanimously when it votes Wednesday night.
Banda currently makes about $230,000 a year as
superintendent of the Anaheim (Calif.) City School District.
The board had said originally it hoped to pay the new
superintendent a similar amount to Interim Superintendent
Susan Enfield, who was paid $225,000 during her tenure.
Enfield recently accepted a position as superintendent of
the Highline School District.
