Newt Gingrich has a plan to get gas to $2.50 per gallon

Presidential candidate Newt Gingrich didn’t make the headlines like Romney and Santorum did in the GOP debate Wednesday night, but he tells AM 770 The Truth’s David Boze being president is about delivering on your promises, not talking points.
He said he’s better than either of them because “I’m the one candidate who’s designed national victories, which is important if we’re going to beat Obama and beat him decisively.”
Gingrich also said he’s actually implemented very large scale change: 1981 Reagan tax cuts, campaign to defeat the Soviet Empire, welfare reform, and the Balanced Budget Act of 1997.
“It’s more than being able to read a speech or have good talking points from your consultants. You also have to know, ‘If you win, could you actually get Washington to work.'”
Gingrich says his ideas are big enough to get America back on the right track.
“$2.50 a gallon gasoline, a new jobs creation program in the private sector, developing a personal savings account for young people.”
Gingrich didn’t elaborate on the plan for getting gas as cheap as $2.50 per gallon, but said you could find out more about the American Energy Strategy at Newt.org.
In a nutshell, Gingrich said 1) You could approve the Keystone Pipeline, moving large quantities of oil from Canada to the United States. 2) You could reopen the Gulf of Mexico and get it to production levels of four or five years ago. 3) You could open areas of Alaska.
“If we opened up federal land, if we opened up offshore, we would, by the end of this decade, be the largest oil producer in the world. We would be independent,” said Gingrich. “The people listening to us today would be paying $2.50 or less for their gasoline.”
Gingrich will visit Olympia Friday at 9:45 a.m., Federal Way for a rally at 12:30 p.m. and another rally in Everett at 7:00 p.m.
