What started with a suspicious vehicle ended in a police-involved shooting in Normandy Park Friday morning.

The Normandy Park police chief told KIRO 7 an officer was on patrol in a residential area and approached a suspicious vehicle near Sixth Avenue South and Marine View Drive Drive around 4:45 a.m. The officer began talking with the man and then called for backup after two minutes.

The officer continued talking to the man who didn’t comply with the officer’s orders. The officer shot the man in the shoulder at 4:56 a.m.

Police recovered a handgun right outside the driver’s side door.

Neighbors said they awoke to sounds of gunshots and screaming.

The suspect is at the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

No officers were injured.

The King County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit is investigating.
