Woman beaten, held at gunpoint at Olympia encampment known as ‘The Jungle’

Four people were arrested after attacking a woman at a prominent Olympia homeless camp, Olympia Police confirmed.
A woman was allegedly beaten with a bat and had a gun loaded with a single round shoved in her mouth last week at “The Jungle,” according to KING 5, a well-known encampment in the city. She suffered from a concussion and multiple cuts.
The attack happened June 18 after the victim went to “The Jungle” to return a bike to a friend. The group of suspects, residents of “The Jungle,” began attacking her after blaming her for the recent overdose death of a friend.
While four people were arrested after the attack, the Olympia Police Department (OPD) said seven people in total were involved in the attack.
“The allegations are disturbing on a great number of levels,” Thurston County Judge John Skinder said at a preliminary hearing, according to KING 5.
Business owners in the area have complained for months about the safety issues that come with having an establishment near “The Jungle.”
“While we have compassion for people facing homelessness and the difficult realities they endure, we are also growing increasingly frustrated by the ongoing and seemingly unchecked impact these situations have on our community, our staff, and our business,” Brandon and Chelsi Weedon, owners of Fatso’s Bar and Grill, told KING 5.
