Check current traffic conditions.

Police in Tacoma say a male driver is dead after an SUV drove to the entrance of a closed bridge, went through a fence and landed 100 feet below on railroad tracks.

The car went off near Tacoma Avenue overpass, above Center Street, and on to the Sounder train tracks below. The crash occurred at approximately 4:40 p.m. Friday.

The News Tribune reports that police spokeswoman Loretta Cool said the latest crash happened late Friday afternoon. She said the driver was alone and never actually reached the bridge at Tacoma Avenue. The bridge is closed for construction and barriers block access.

This is the second fatality involving a car falling off an overpass in about a week in Tacoma.
