A driver was killed after an SUV crashed into the back of a Washington State Department of Transportation truck in Everett Monday morning.

The SUV hit the back of the WSDOT traffic control truck on northbound I-5 around 3 a.m., bursting into flames, according to the Washington State Patrol. The crash occurred just north of Everett Mall Way.

Investigators report there is no indication the driver of the SUV tried to stop, according to KIRO 7.

The driver of the WSDOT truck has a minor leg injury.

The crash and investigation blocked the two left lanes of northbound I-5 for several hours.

To make matters worse in Everett, a rollover blocked the three left lanes of southbound I-5 just as commuters were hitting the road. That crash significantly increased commute times. By 7:30 a.m. the drive from Everett into Seattle was about 80 minutes in the general purpose lanes.
