Oso Strong shirts sell out; proceeds donated to victims

Apr 18, 2014, 6:05 PM | Updated: 6:12 pm

When President Obama visits the Oso mudslide on Tuesday, he’ll likely see plenty of people wearing Oso Strong sweatshirts.

Puyallup based Safety Shirtz first made them available in the days following the March 22 slide.

“It’s a drop in the bucket from what they’re going to need up there and it certainly doesn’t do anything to take away the anguish everybody’s going through, but it’s pretty awesome to be able to contribute,” Jeff Barkshire, owner of Safety Shirtz, told KIRO Radio.

As promised, a percentage of the proceeds from shirt sales is going to the mudslide victims.

Barkshire said they wrote a check for over $40,000 to the Cascade Valley Hospital Foundation Disaster Fund and sent over $61,000 to the Oso Fire Department Fund.

He said he’s shipped shirts to Germany, Canada, and to places all over the U.S. And he’s thankful for everyone who helped make it happen.

Barkshire said they’re not taking any more orders.
