SDOT announces return of paid parking in Seattle on July 13

The Seattle Department of Transportation announced Tuesday that paid street parking will return to Seattle starting Monday, July 13.
Why is it taking so long to figure out the West Seattle Bridge?
To start, it will be set at 50 cents per hour, the lowest rate allowed by the city’s municipal code. That rate will remain in place “for at least a month” while SDOT reviews data on parking activity and neighborhood occupancy.
“Further adjustments could come later in 2020,” SDOT clarified in a blog post. “We are committed to following a data-driven process.”
For the first two weeks, paid parking enforcement will be limited to educating drivers rather than issuing fines, with the department asking for “voluntary compliance as customers return to our neighborhood businesses.”
RPZs will continue to be enforced to keep parking available for residents of neighborhoods. Loading zones and food pick-up zones will also be enforced, as well as areas with signs indicating no parking is permitted during a specified time.

Enforcement of the 72-hour limit on parking in a single space will continue to be suspended.
Parking enforcement was initially suspended in early April in response to Gov. Inslee’s Stay Home, Stay Healthy order.
