Update (8/5):

Incumbent Jaime Herrera Beutler’s (R) slim lead over Joe Kent (R) was cut in half after Thursday night results were tallied in the primary election race for the 3rd U.S. House District, garnering 23.26% and 22.03% of the vote, respectively. Democratic challenger Marie Gluesenkamp Perez has already advanced to the November election with 31.05% of the vote.

Herrera Beutler’s impeachment vote against former President Donald Trump spurred a number of Trump-supporting candidates to run for office in Washington state’s southwestern district. Kent, who has garnered support from Trump himself, has connections to right-wing extremists, including a campaign consultant who was a member of the Proud Boys.

Update 5:10 p.m., 8/3:

Marie Gluesenkamp Perez and incumbent Jaime Herrera Beutler are now leading in the primary election race for the 3rd U.S. House District, garnering 32.0% and 23.9% of the vote, respectively.

Nine candidates, listed below, filed for election to the 3rd U.S. House District.

Jaime Herrera Beutler (Incumbent) (Republican Party)
Oliver Black (American Solidarity Party)
Chris Byrd (Independent)
Leslie French (Republican Party)
Marie Gluesenkamp Pérez (Democratic Party)
Joe Kent (Republican Party)
Vicki Kraft (Republican Party)
Davy Ray (Democratic Party)
