Photographer files lawsuit against Seattle Police

A freelance photographer, arrested during the 2012 May Day protests, is suing the Seattle Police Department.
A police report stated that Alex Garland grabbed and officer’s hand, then twisted and squeezed.
He was charged with assault, but a YouTube video later showed that all Garland did was wave at the officer.
Garland tells KING 5 he filed the lawsuit in U.S. Federal Court claiming police violated his civil rights during the 2012 May Day protests.
“They’ve got the department of justice breathing down their throat as it is,” says Garland. “So if you just add more cases to that, maybe they’ll get the idea that they’re doing something wrong.”
The police department and the Seattle City Attorney’s Office have not commented on the case.
