Pierce County deputies working two Thursday night shootings

Sep 21, 2012, 5:27 AM | Updated: 9:43 am

Pierce County deputies are investigating two shootings that happened about a mile apart Thursday night.

Detective Ed Troyer with the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office said they aren’t sure if the shootings are related.

“Detectives are working both cases today, and hopefully we’ll get some suspect information that we can get out there and try to get these people caught,” he said.

One of the shootings took place outside a Denny’s Restaurant at 108th and Pacific Avenue in Parkland. Two people were injured in the drive-by, but both will reportedly be OK.

The second shooting was reported about a mile away at 112th and Waller Road. Deputies were called to the Summit Apartments on reports of a fight and gunshots. No one was there when they arrived.

“We cleared it,” Troyer said. “Later on that evening, we had a man walk into Tacoma General Hospital with a gunshot wound to the arm, which we tied back to that reported shooting.”

The victim in the apartment shooting has a long criminal history that includes gang ties. Troyer said he was recently released from jail.
