Police: Fatal Kent crash caused by driver checking cell phone

King County Sheriff’s deputies suspect that a Monday evening collision in Kent was caused by a driver checking his cell phone.
The accident sent two passengers in their 20s to Harborview Medical Center, and killed a driver, a 25-year-old Federal Way woman.
The collision happened around 8 p.m. Monday at 148th Avenue SE and Lake Youngs Way when a Ford sedan crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a Honda Civic head on. Two passengers in the Honda were injured and sent to the hospital. The driver of the Honda died at the scene.
Sheriff’s investigators suspect that the driver of the Ford, a 25-year-old Maple Valley male, was checking his cell phone at the time of the collision, and therefore, was not watching the road. The driver of the Ford was uninjured.
Sheriff’s investigators continue to look into the accident. No arrest has been made at this time.
