Police shoot Bainbridge Island gunman

Jul 9, 2017, 8:20 AM | Updated: 2:41 pm

Around 9:30 p.m. Saturday the Bainbridge Fire Department warned that officers were dealing with an active shooter near Eagle Harbor.

The Bainbridge Island Review reported that a man in a boat was shooting at the shoreline and officers. Anyone living in the area was asked to shelter in place and stay away from windows.

After several hours of negotiations, law enforcement boarded Kitsap County Sheriff’s boats and Kingston Police Department boats and approached the man’s vessel. The suspect raised a weapon towards law enforcement and was subsequently shot.

The suspect later died of his injuries. No other injuries were reported.

Ferry service to and from Bainbridge Island was suspended; service resumed at 11:15 p.m.
