Detectives are investigating after Seattle police shot and killed a man Tuesday night along the Seattle Waterfront.

The shooting happened on Alaskan Way and Seneca Street.

According to Seattle police, before 9:30 p.m. the Port of Seattle police called Seattle police about a man in crisis and who was armed with a kitchen knife. When officers arrived, the man appeared to have cut himself and fled along Alaskan Way.

“Police approached the man and attempted to use a less lethal tool, but the device was ineffective,” police said.

According to investigators, the man moved toward officers, who then fired and fatally struck him.

Two officers who were involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave. The investigation remains ongoing.

This is the second deadly shooting in the past week involving Seattle officers. On Feb. 9, officers shot and killed a suspect who they say randomly shot two women in the Central District. One of the two women died.
