Power was fully restored in North Seattle after an outage just before noon Sunday impacted more than 20,0000 customers, according to Seattle City Light.

As of 11:50 a.m., the 113 outages impacted 3,972 customers. By noon, the number ballooned to 20,282.  Impacted neighborhoods include Fremont, Ravenna, most all of Wallingford, Eastlake, North Capitol Hill, Montlake and Meridian.  City Light identified the problem as an equipment failure at the University of Washington substation.  Power was fully restored by 3 p.m.

Puget Sound Energy reported upwards of 8,000 customers without power during the day, too. Those outages were scattered around Western Washington, primarily in the Sammamish, Redmond and Covington areas.

A high wind warning was issued by the National Weather Service for King, Pierce and Snohomish Counties at 10:34 a.m. and lasted until 6 p.m. There were reports of heavy winds and downed trees near Sultan, Wash., according to KIRO 7.

The UW women’s basketball team was set to host UCLA at American Airlines Arena in front of a nationally televised audience at 2 p.m. Sunday, but the arena’s power went out. It eventually returned, with the tip time moved back one hour.
