More than 6,000 homes and businesses were without power in an area spanning Sumner, Bonney Lake, and Puyallup Tuesday morning.

Puget Sound Energy (PSE) reported the outage around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday. Power was fully restored by 9 a.m. According to PSE, there were seven active outages in the area affecting 6,472 customers. Additionally, at least one school was offline.

PSE told KIRO Newsradio the outage was caused by a raccoon climbing a high wire and damaging circuits at a substation. The raccoon is OK, according to PSE, as crews spent the next four hours on repairs to get everyone back online.
