One of the big surprises to come out of the first round of primary election results is Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist falling behind by 10 percentage points.

His challenger, Mary Robnett, an assistant attorney general who used to serve as chief criminal deputy at the prosecutor’s office, is leading with 55 percent of the vote in Pierce County. She’s ahead of Lindquist by approximately 9,500 votes.
This is Robnett’s first time running for office.
The Tacoma News Tribune reports this is the most expensive race in the state at the county level. Nearly $400,000 has been raised, according to the Tribune.
Lindquist, a Democrat, has received support from Tacoma Mayor Victoria Woodards, the Tacoma City Council, and Gov. Jay Inslee, according to the Tribune.
Robnett was endorsed from former state Attorney General Rob McKenna and state auditor Pat McCarthy. She also received endorsements from Pierce County’s biggest police unions and Democratic organizations, the Tribune reports.
With only two candidates in the running for Pierce County prosecuting attorney, the primary results show the general election in November will be tight, and with even more campaign spending.
