Prosecutors want exceptional sentence for teen burglar

Prosecutors plan to seek an exceptional sentence against a
teenager who faces a slew of charges tied to a string of
home burglaries in North Seattle.
Maxfield Dare, 18, pleaded not guilty Tuesday to three
counts of residential burglary. He was also charged
earlier this month with possession of a stolen vehicle and
trafficking in stolen property. Police say he committed a
series of home burglaries where he made away with
electronics and sometimes cars.
Because homeowners were sleeping during the alleged
burglaries, prosecutors will seek a sentence above the
standard range of 63 to 84 months.
“Burglars who strike in the middle of the night when
victims are sleeping present a special danger,” said King
County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Satterberg. “The law
allows us to ask for an exceptionally long sentence for
residential burglars who break in while homeowners are
present, and that is what we will do in this deserving
case.”
According to prosecutors, Dare amassed 15 convictions as a
juvenile.
“Now that he is 18-years-old, he will face the full weight
of adult prison sanctions,” Satterberg said.
Dare has also been charged in a separate incident
involving the robbery of three men in Seattle’s University
District. He is currently being held on $200,000 bail.
