Snohomish County dive and rescue teams retrieved 10 people from the Skykomish River Tuesday afternoon after reports that two rafts capsized near Gold Bar.
“All rafters are out of the Skykomish River, accounted for and safe,” tweeted the sheriff’s office.
Rescue crews were dispatched to the Skykomish River between the towns of Index and Gold Bar after initial reports indicated as many as eight people could be missing.
Rafters, who all declined aid, were either helped from the river or walked out themselves. They were all properly trained and equipped.
The area is popular for whitewater rafting and kayaking. Winter rains and snowmelt have swollen the river, which includes class 4 and 5 whitewater rapids.
